Relay For Life of Salinas Valley Moves to Downtown Salinas

SALINAS, CA – SEPTEMBER 10, 2022 – The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of the Salinas Valley invites the community to join the movement to honor and remember loved ones and fight back for lifesaving change on September 10th in Downtown Salinas (Oldtown). Relay For Life is a community of survivors, caregivers, local citizens, volunteers, and participants who believe that the future can be free from cancer and own the power to make that change.

“We share a passion to save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer,” said Anna Abad, event co-lead. “In 2022, almost 1.9 million new cases of cancer will
be diagnosed in the United States. Thanks to that shared passion, the lifesaving mission of the American Cancer Society can’t be stopped, ensuring we are here for everyone who needs us.”

For more than 35 years, Relay For Life has joined communities together to remember loved ones lost, honor survivors of all cancers, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society save lives. Dollars raised each year by over 500,000 Relay participants across the country help attack all cancers in countless ways – funding and conducting breakthrough research, providing education, and advocating for the needs of cancer patients and their families, and providing essential services throughout their cancer journey.“It’s never been easier to raise money for Relay For Life and help fund the future. Every dollar raised fuels the American Cancer Society’s lifesaving mission. The fight against cancer needs you now more than ever,” said Curt Lowensen, event co-lead.

For the first time, the Relay For Life of the Salinas Valley is scheduled to occur in the newly renovated Downtown Salinas (Oldtown) producing the county’s first ever Urban Walk Relay. This exciting relocation brings the relay event to a central setting creating accessibility for community members from all over Monterey County to join in the fight against cancer.

“This year we celebrate 25 Years of Relay for Life Salinas Valley working hard to fight the effects of Cancer in our Community. We are excited to bring Relay to Downtown Salinas and the opportunity for our dedicated Volunteers and Teams to honor Survivors, Caregivers and all those beautiful individuals lost to our enemy called Cancer!” – Mark Kennedy, volunteer.

Relay For Life of the Salinas Valley’s opening ceremony will start at 4pm, followed by the Survivor’s Lap and Team’s Lap. There will be entertainment throughout the event, along with a Kid’s Zone and Hospitality Tent, and even a car show all of which will be spread out throughout the 100, 200 and 300 blocks of Main Street in Downtown Salinas (Oldtown). The Relay will wrap up with the all-important Luminaria Ceremony.

There are many ways to get involved.
