Salinas veterans to be honored with photo banners

throughout the city for Veterans Day!

Veterans and family members can apply for a free banner by October 1st

SALINAS, CA – Salinas Hometown Heroes is a new program dedicated to honoring veterans and active-
duty service members who call – or have called – Salinas home. The Salinas Hometown Hero Banner
Program is a living tribute for our community to honor local members of the Armed Forces for Veterans
Day 2021 and Memorial Day 2022. Every two sided, colored banner (see attachment) will adorn every
light post on the both sides of Main Street from E. San Luis Street down Oldtown Salinas to Central
Avenue.

Each banner will honor a specific Salinas service member, whether a current or past resident of the city,
and will feature his or her name, branch of service, and photo. This initiative is donor based and banners
will be provided at no cost to families or service members. Community sponsors are the primary source
of funding for this program and will help ensure its success. Individuals or businesses can donate here to
support the Hometown Hero Banner Program.

There are currently 72 banner display locations available, and applications will be taken on a first come,
first serve basis. Once maximum capacity has been met, additional applicants will be placed on a list for
their banner to be displayed during the following rotation. Additional display locations may be added in
the future depending on the success of the program.

For this first round, all applications must be received by October 1st to allow time for printing and
installation by Veterans Day.

Download your application for a banner here or support this program with a donation here. You can also
apply and donate on Facebook @SalinasHeroesBanners.

This program is proudly led by a committee of volunteers who deeply cherish veterans and active duty
service members.
